BAXLEY, Ga. (AP) - An eastern Georgia man convicted of making up a story about a fatal home invasion has been sentenced to life in his wife’s slaying.

WTOC-TV (https://bit.ly/SuswLc ) reports Michael Courson of Baxley pleaded guilty Monday to charges of felony murder, filing a false report and tampering with evidence. In January of 2013, Courson told investigators that two men broke into his home and strangled his wife, Mandy.

Witnesses testified that Courson tried claiming a life insurance policy in his wife’s name, was responsible for loans on several cars he did not own, and closed all of the couple’s joint accounts three days after her death.

Courson will not be eligible for parole.
