Sen. Dan Coats, Indiana Republican, said Monday that the Obama administration shouldn’t wait until the May 25 elections to impose more sanctions on Russia.

“I would like to see us move forward on this now and not wait to see what happens,” he said on MSNBC.

He said the sanctions already in place were “too little, too late,” and haven’t done anything to deter Russian President Vladimir Putin from keeping control of Crimea.

“They should’ve been imposed much earlier and go right to the Russia pocketbook, damage their economy,” he said. “I think holding off until the 25th before imposing new sanctions or more effective sanctions is a mistake.”
