CHICAGO (AP) - The Illinois state prison system plans an event this week to help female ex-offenders.

The Illinois Department of Corrections‘ Summit of Hope will be Thursday in Chicago. The program helps former inmates transition from prison by doing things like getting a driver’s license, renting an apartment, finding a job and enrolling in education programs. Several state agencies are set to participate.

State prison officials say one of the goals of the program is to reduce recidivism.

The Department of Corrections holds several Summit of Hope events every year for both women and men. Additional events this year include programs in South Holland, Olney (AHL’-nee) and Ullin (UHL’-in).
