BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. (AP) - Blue Mountain College is buying a former children’s home property to address housing for its increasing male student enrollment.

Blue Mountain officials say the property is located 1.6 miles south of main campus.

From 2004 to 2013, BMC’s male student population grew from 86 to 217.

The new facility will house 40 students and two proctors as well as a multi-function building and a smaller classroom/meeting room building. Applications to the new residence hall will initially come from upperclassmen.

A shuttle will run to the main campus.

Renovations are expected to be completed by the start of the 2014-2015 school year.

Blue Mountain College was founded in 1873 as an all-female institution. The school opened its doors to men in 1956. Blue Mountain is supported by the Mississippi Baptist Convention.
