MAYFLOWER, Ark. (AP) - Police have arrested a Malvern man who allegedly tried to steal a four-wheeler and claimed to be a sheriff’s deputy while in an area with damage caused by last week’s deadly tornado.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Monday (https://bit.ly/SutzL2) that 72-year-old David Griffin is facing charges of theft of property, criminal impersonation and criminal trespass. Police say Griffin attempted to load a four-wheeler that didn’t belong to him onto a trailer Sunday in the River Plantation neighborhood near Mayflower.

After being confronted, Griffin unloaded the vehicle, identified himself as John Smith and said he worked with the sheriff’s office.

He told police who found him more than a half-mile away from the River Plantation neighborhood that he was taking the four-wheeler to find who the owner was.
