PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A New Jersey man will spend 15 years in federal prison for several brutal muggings near one of Philadelphia’s most popular historic sites.

A federal judge in Philadelphia on Monday also ordered 47-year-old Santos Centeno of Camden, N.J., to pay nearly $6,500 in restitution.

Centeno was convicted of attacking a 35-year-old man who asked for help finding a missing car near Independence National Historical Park in June 2012.

Prosecutors said Centeno and his 26-year-old nephew Baldwin Centeno, who was sentenced last month to nearly five years in prison, brutally beat the man, causing brain injuries, facial fractures and other wounds.

Authorities said Santos Centeno mugged and injured a couple walking near the historical site a few days later, robbing them of a cell phone and money.
