MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois military operation that manages the armed force’s shipping and transportation has a new commander.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin Dempsey attended Monday’s ceremony marking Gen. Paul Selva’s transition to lead the U.S. Transportation Command. The command is based at Scott Air Force Base.

Selva had been in charge of the Air Mobility Command, which also is based at Scott near Mascoutah (muh-SKOO’-tuh).

Selva succeeds retiring Gen. William Fraser III. Fraser had been in that position since October 2011.

A separate ceremony marked Lt. Gen. Darren McDew’s replacing Selva as chief of the Air Mobility Command.
