DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police say a Texas man jumped to his death off the Ambassador Bridge after being turned away by Canadian officials.

According to Officer Adam Madera, the man headed back toward Detroit on Monday.

Madera says the 35-year-old man from Kingwood, Texas, then stopped his vehicle, got out and jumped off the American side of the span at 11:25 a.m.

The man’s name wasn’t released.

Madera says he landed on the ground, not the Detroit River.
