MOCKSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A woman was hurt when a small, single-engine plane she was flying crashed in a field in Davie County.

Emergency management coordinator Jerry Myers says the crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Sunday in a field near Interstate 40.

Myers says the pilot was conscious when she was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment. He did not know her condition.

She had taken off from an airport near Mocksville when the crash occurred.

Myers said one wing burst and dumped some fuel on the ground. There was no fire.

Federal officials were to begin investigating the crash Monday.
