LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The state Department of Transportation is reporting that four rest areas in southern Michigan were vandalized over the weekend, forcing one to be temporarily closed.

Urinals, toilets and sinks in the men’s rooms were cracked or smashed at rest stops along Interstate 94 and U.S. 23. MDOT estimates it’ll cost $33,000 for repairs.

MDOT said Monday it was converting extra women’s restrooms at three facilities to men’s restrooms while repairs are made. The rest area on westbound I-94 in Grass Lake will be closed several days for repairs.

The other stops vandalized include westbound I-94 in Galesburg and Marshall, and the Dundee Welcome Center on northbound U.S. 23.

State police are investigating. Anyone with information should call the Coldwater Post at 517-278-2373.
