O’FALLON, Mo. (AP) - A 78-year-old St. Charles County man and his dog are dead after being struck by a car.

Police say Richard Kurtz died Monday at the border of O’Fallon and Cottleville. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1iYlUta ) reports that Kurtz was outside his home when the dog ran across Highway N.

A passerby caught the animal, and Kurtz walked across the road to retrieve the dog. Kurtz and the dog were struck as they were walking back across the road.
