ACCORD, N.Y. (AP) - The body of an upstate New York soldier killed in action in Afghanistan last month will be returned to his hometown later this week.

The remains of Sgt. Shawn Farrell of Accord are scheduled to arrive Wednesday morning at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh. His casket will be escorted to Accord in Ulster County by his family, military and emergency personnel, and members of the Patriot Guard.

Military officials say the 24-year-old died April 28 from wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. Farrell served in the 10th Mountain Division based at Fort Drum in northern New York.

Services are being held Thursday at Skate Time in Accord. He’ll be buried with full military honors at the Krumville Cemetery.
