WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - A man is scheduled to go on trial next week in a western Pennsylvania shooting death in a suburban parking lot that authorities say stemmed from a road rage dispute.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter (https://bit.ly/1sf8JeN ) reports that a jury was selected Monday in Washington County Court in the trial of 31-year-old Brandon Thomas. Opening statements are scheduled next Monday.

Thomas is charged in the October 2012 death of 55-year-old Vaughn Simonelli. Police said he was shot after the two argued in a strip mall parking lot in Washington, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, after a minor traffic collision.

Prosecution and defense have sparred over whether the shots were fired from inside the defendant’s vehicle or outside. Thomas told investigators that Simonelli was attacking him when he fired.
