NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s daughter has received an award for speaking out about her substance abuse and recovery.

Chaira de Blasio on Tuesday accepted the award from U.S. Department of Health and Human Service Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

The 19-year-old college student released a video in December in which she opened up about her addiction and depression.

At Tuesday’s event in Maryland she thanked her parents and her 16-year-old brother for their support. She says it’s a miracle that one year later she is sober and healthy.
