PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say a University of Pennsylvania graduate student sent plunging from an elevated roadway in Philadelphia after a car crash has died.

A police spokeswoman says 27-year-old Zachary Woods, the pedestrian critically injured in the 40-foot fall, died around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said two cars collided and one struck the Monroe, New York, man and a light pole, throwing both over the side.

Penn officials said Woods was a student at the Wharton School, which expressed condolences to his family on its Facebook page.

Police say a 43-year-old man driving one of the cars in the crash is hospitalized with “extremely critical” injuries. A 69-year-old man driving the second car is in pain but hospitalized in stable condition. Their names weren’t released.

An investigation is underway.
