HAMPTON, Ill. (AP) - Western Illinois rescue crews are scaling back their searching for a missing 44-year-old man who disappeared after his boat overturned on the Mississippi River.
Charles Slocum was fishing with four other people on Tuesday morning near Hampton when their anchor broke. The vessel drifted into a dam and flipped. The other four people were rescued or swam to shore.
Officials with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources say divers will continue searching for the Colona (kuh-LOH’-nuh) man on Thursday, but say fewer people will be involved in the effort.
Wednesday’s search was hampered by rough currents and stormy weather.
