PALMER, Mass. (AP) - A certified nursing assistant at an East Longmeadow nursing facility charged with raping a patient has pleaded not guilty.

Parkpoom Seesangrit (park-POOM’ see-SAN’-grit) of Great Barrington was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail at his arraignment Wednesday in Palmer District Court.

Authorities say the 24-year-old suspect was found by another worker in the room of a 69-year-old woman with dementia on Tuesday night under “inappropriate circumstances.”

The alleged victim was not under the direct care of the suspect. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Seesangrit’s lawyer says his client was assisting the alleged victim “in some matters of personal hygiene.”

A spokeswoman for East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center called the allegation an abomination and say Seesangrit has been suspended.
