PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A group of women from Brown University spent part of finals week helping a group of ducklings and their mother find their way home.

The 11 Mallards, whose hatching had been chronicled on a Facebook page, facebook.com/makeway4ducklings, began life in a flowerpot in front of the school’s science library.

On Wednesday, they began the waddle through the busy city and back to the Providence River.

Student Emily Wilkins, who set up the Facebook page, and several other women from the school’s biology department gave them an assist. The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1m5kmmG ) they used placards that said “Duck X-ing” to stop traffic, and to keep the ducklings from storm drains and other hazards.

The ducklings and mom eventually made it to the river where they were reunited with the father.
