HOCKESSIN, Del. (AP) - New Castle County Police say a car became airborne and crashed into the second floor of a house in Hockessin.

It happened about 6:45 p.m. on Old Wilmington Road. Police say 27-year-old John Cherrington of Pennsylvania was driving a Mitsubishi Lancer when he failed to negotiate a curve.

Officers say the car hit a piece of wood, causing it to go airborne. Authorities say the vehicle then struck a parked car and crashed into the second floor of a converted barn.

Linda Brizendine, who was in the house, tells The News Journal of Wilmington that she heard a loud noise and at first thought a tree had fallen into her 100-year-old home. No one in the house was injured.

Police say Cherrington was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
