CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Police said Monday they don’t know whether a woman killed at a Clovis park was targeted by somebody she knew or whether she was a victim of a random attack by a stranger.
Police found the body of Ariel Ulibarri of Clovis on Sunday morning after people heard screams at the Goodwin Lake Trails Walking Park. The woman’s 6-year-old son was found unharmed in the parking lot.
Police Capt. Patrick Whitney said the case is being considered a homicide due to the amount of blood found on the 23-year-old victim and statements made to investigators by the dead woman’s son.
Police withheld specifics on how the victim was killed, saying they were waiting for the results of an autopsy by the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque.
Investigators said Monday they were still following leads and reviewing surveillance video from camera systems in the area around the park. They were also combing social media pages and cellphone records for any clues.
