CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - A Chesapeake man faces more than 50 years in prison after entering a plea on charges of killing his mother’s boyfriend.
Media outlets report that 35-year-old Ryan Martinez entered an Alford plea on Monday to second-degree murder and two counts of concealing a body. Sentencing is set for Feb. 27, 2015, in Chesapeake Circuit Court.
An Alford plea is one in which a defendant acknowledges there was sufficient evidence for conviction but does not admit guilt.
Martinez was accused of killing 59-year-old Anthony Barone and hiding the victim’s body. He also was accused of hiding the body of his mother, 54-year-old Cindy Jensen Ellett.
Martinez’s girlfriend, 39-year-old Airika Liljegren, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ellett.
The victims’ bodies were found inside a home in July 2013.
