FLORISSANT, Mo. (AP) - A new effort is underway for a light-rail route in St. Louis running north and south, connecting the Florissant area to south St. Louis County.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1GLpyWX ) reports that a fledgling group is pushing for the MetroLink expansion project that would cost more than $1 billion. Among its members are former state Sen. Joan Bray of University City, St. Louis Alderman Scott Ogilvie, and former East-West Gateway Council of Governments executive Les Sterman.

Sterman was involved in the early planning of the original MetroLink line, which runs east and west. He says light-rail had been a regional success story.
