RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The former University of North Carolina and NFL player who left the game to grow food for the hungry has delivered his own child at his Louisburg home.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports (https://bit.ly/1x0KOQE) Jason Brown and his wife, Tay, had planned to have help for a home birth, but the mother went through labor so quickly that the boy arrived before the help did.

Lunsford Bernard Brown III was born on Tuesday. He is named in honor of Brown’s older brother, who was killed in military action in Afghanistan.

Brown had no farming experience when he left the NFL. but bought a 1,000-acre farm in Franklin County with the intention of growing crops to donate to food shelters, churches and other organizations that feed the hungry.
