LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - A Lawrence man has pleaded not guilty to fatally stabbing an 18-year-old Lowell woman during what police say was a fight over marijuana.

The Sun (https://bit.ly/1qyLy2E ) reports that David Benitez Jr. was ordered held on $100,000 bail after pleading not guilty Wednesday to manslaughter.

Prosecutors say he killed Charlena Ngeth on Monday night.

Police say Ngeth and friends set up a meeting with an alleged marijuana dealer to buy drugs. But the real plan was to rob the dealer.

When Benitez and another man showed up at the arranged spot, they were jumped.

Benitez told police he was pinned to the ground, so he took out a knife and stabbed the person on top of him. His lawyer pointed out that Benitez turned himself in.
