WAVELAND, Miss. (AP) - The City of Waveland is working to replace the signature mosaic that stood in front of City Hall until Hurricane Katrina destroyed it.
WLOX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1ybkWmV ) that artist Elizabeth Veglia is leading a community effort to create a new tile mosaic.
Twenty-six community workshops have been held in the past five weeks to plan and design the mosaic. More than 300 Waveland residents, including students, will have a hand in putting the tile pieces together.
Veglia hopes the project will be completed by the end of the month.
A grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission is funding the project.
