DETROIT (AP) - Singer-songwriter Jason Mraz has helped harvest lettuce, spinach and vegetables at a Detroit urban farm before performing at the Fox Theater.
The Detroit Free Press reports (https://on.freep.com/13QSXjo ) the musician with a green thumb spent a couple of hours Thursday at Plum Street Market Garden at MGM Grand Detroit, a 1.7-acre farm on the edge of downtown.
Mraz says he has an avocado farm at his California home and misses gardening when he’s touring. He says he gets involved with gardens, urban farms and tree-planting organizations as he travels to learn and keep his skills fresh.
About 20 fans joined Mraz for volunteer work at the farm after winning the opportunity in a radio contest.
The nonprofit organization Keep Growing Detroit oversees the project and says it appreciates the celebrity’s support.
