BREWTON, Ala. (AP) - WKRG-TV is reporting a high school band director has pleaded guilty in an Alabama student sex case.

The TV station said (https://bit.ly/1xe9tna ) Lance Gainous pleaded guilty Friday in Escambia County to one felony and two misdemeanors in a deal with prosecutors, who will not pursue additional charges.

Defense attorney Clark Stankoski says Gainous will serve his three-year sentence at the Escambia County Jail. District Attorney Stephen Billy says it was the best deal for everyone involved, noting Gainous will be a sex offender the rest of his life and “won’t be around a school system or children.”

Gainous was working at a school in south Georgia when prosecutors accused him of having sex with at least eight students at T.R. Miller High School in Brewton, Alabama.
