BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A South Texas man charged in the shooting deaths of his wife and their 4-year-old son has pleaded not guilty.

Cameron County jail records show Donald Edward Pierce of Brownsville was being held without bond Friday.

Pierce on Thursday was arraigned on charges of capital murder of multiple persons, capital murder of a person under age 10, tampering with evidence and evading arrest. Investigators haven’t released a possible motive.

The bodies of Pierce’s wife, Diana, and their son, William, were found Sept. 19 in some rubbish in the backyard of the family’s home. Brownsville police had been summoned to check a foul odor.

Police say Pierce fled when approached by officers but was captured. He was booked Sept. 20.

An attorney for Pierce didn’t immediately return a message Friday.
