CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Charleston Mayor Joe Riley earned his degree from The Citadel, and the military school says he’s returning to a newly endowed chair.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (https://bit.ly/1tRCwNB) the military college was creating an endowed chair in American Government and Public Policy, and that Riley will be the first to hold the seat. Riley will move to The Citadel after he completes his fourth term in January 2016.
Riley, who graduated from The Citadel in 1964, will spend at least one semester each year on campus. He said he will teach about government and public policy, write his memoirs and help arrange guest lectures. He also will be interviewed for an extensive oral history of his life and career.
Riley’s 50th class reunion is this weekend.
