FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Six churches in the Fort Walton Beach area are prepared to help the homeless when the weather turns cold this winter.
The Northwest Florida Daily News (https://bit.ly/1ymfFsH ) reported Sunday that the churches have qualified for new permits declaring that they are certified by inspectors as cold-night shelters.
Fort Walton Beach began enforcing tougher safety regulations for shelters in February.
Volunteers at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church told the newspaper they are ready for cold weather with three-shifts of workers and a full kitchen staff who will volunteer at the church during cold snaps.
