GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A Carbondale restaurant owner who acknowledged fatally shooting a man his stepdaughter was living with has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The Post Independent reports (https://bit.ly/1BAwCQY ) 41-year-old Fredy Cabrera was sentenced Wednesday for the July 31, 2013, death of 22-year-old Douglas Menjivar outside an apartment near Glenwood Springs. Cabrera pleaded guilty in August to second-degree murder.

Investigators say he was angry his 18-year-old stepdaughter was in a relationship with Menjivar, who had worked for Cabrera at his restaurant.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop a first-degree murder charge that carried a possible sentence of life in prison.
