Feminist and video game critic Anita Sarkeesian canceled a lecture scheduled for Wednesday at Utah State University after she received a death threat and the school was threatened with a mass shooting if she spoke as planned, according to The Salt Lake City Tribune

“Feminists have ruined my life, and I will have my revenge, for my sake and the sake of all others they’ve wronged,” said an email message to the university from a sender who claimed to be a student on campus, The Tribune reported.

Ms. Sarkeesian writes a feminist video gamer blog, addresses misogyny in video games and has created a video series on the topic.

The email writer said he would target Ms. Sarkeesian’s lecture and threatened a “Montreal style massacre,” in reference to an incident at a Montreal university in 1989, when 14 women were killed by gunman Marc Lepine, who also claimed feminists ruined his life. “Marc Leipne” is also how the writer signed his email.

The school had decided not to cancel the lecture, according to The Tribune, and the decision to call off the lecture was Ms. Sarkeesian’s.
