Sen. Tom Harkin spent $50,000 to fly Hillary Rodham Clinton and her husband out to Iowa for his annual steak fry political get-together last month, according to new financial disclosure forms filed Tuesday.

Mrs. Clinton, a former secretary of state and potential 2016 presidential contender, has come under fire for her hefty speaking fees and travel demands.

Students at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas protested when it was revealed that Mrs. Clinton charged the university $225,000 to speak at a UNLV Foundation dinner, shortly after the school announced tuition increases for students.

Mr. Harkin’s organizing committee paid $50,099 to New York-based Executive Fliteways Inc. to fly the Clintons. That was topped only by the $90,225 tab for food at the steak fry, which was catered by Iowa grocery store chain Hy-Vee.

Democrats raised about $315,000 from the September fundraiser, but the event cost roughly $217,000 to put on.
