David Amerson was limited in the Washington Redskins’ practice on Wednesday as he attempts to return from a concussion sustained Sunday in a road loss against Arizona.

Amerson sustained his concussion early in the first quarter when he was hit with a stiff block by tight end John Carlson on a screen pass. He returned for a series, then left the game and did not return after being diagnosed by the team’s medical staff.

According to the league’s concussion protocol, Amerson would have undergone cognitive testing on Monday and participated in a cardiovascular workout on Tuesday before he would have been able to participate in a limited non-contact practice on Wednesday. That means Amerson, who was also diagnosed with a concussion a day shy of a year ago, has passed all steps to date.

Before he can play Sunday against Tennessee, Amerson will be limited in practice again on Thursday before being able to complete a full practice on Friday. Should he not reach those steps, he cannot be cleared to play.

Coach Jay Gruden said quarterback Robert Griffin III was limited to individual drills in practice, marking the first time he’s been able to do so since dislocating his left ankle Week 2 against Jacksonville.

Inside linebacker Perry Riley, who missed a game for the first time since becoming a starter midway through the 2011 season when he sat out on Sunday, was able to partake in a limited practice.

And left tackle Trent Williams, free safety Ryan Clark, cornerback Tracy Porter and inside linebacker Akeem Jordan did not practice on Wednesday because of injury. Williams is still recovering from a dislocated right kneecap, which he aggravated late in the game Sunday. Clark sprained both of his ankles in the game against Seattle on Oct. 6 but played all but one snap against the Cardinals, while Jordan has been recovering from a torn MCL in his left knee and Porter is still experiencing soreness in his right hamstring.
