Washington Wizards forward Paul Pierce banged his knee coming through a screen late in the second quarter Friday and left the preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter.

Pierce, 37, was on the ground holding his knee after colliding with Charlotte’s Gary Neal with 5.4 seconds remaining in the second quarter. He limped off the court, but started the second half.

In the third quarter, Pierce moved well. He made a steal and was fouled on his way to the other end.

He was taken out in the third quarter to begin treatment on the knee. The Wizards said Pierce is fine.

He finished the night 4-for-7 for 11 points and five rebounds.
