RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) - A Riverton man accused of breaking into a house and killing a man in bed with his estranged wife will remain jailed without bond.

Jeremiah Shull, 22, made an initial appearance in District Court on Tuesday. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death early Sunday of 27-year-old Jacob Nash Willenbrecht of Riverton.

Shull also was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault in the stabbing of his estranged wife, 29-year-old Julie Cordell-Shull, but a charge was not immediately filed. He did not enter a plea.

Police said Shull acknowledged breaking into the house through a window and stabbing Willenbrecht to death with a pocket knife, court records said.

Shull’s attorney says it was a crime of passion, but understood the state’s recommendation that the suspect be held without bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 29.

Cordell-Shull spoke to investigators at the hospital and said she awakened early Sunday and saw Shull stabbing Willenbrecht. She said she put her arm between the two men and it was stabbed.

She said she tried to flee the bedroom but the door was locked and Shull grabbed her around the neck and threw her away from the door, charging documents said. Shull then choked Cordell-Shull until she was unconscious, detective Eric Granlund wrote in his affidavit.

The Ranger reported (https://bit.ly/1FDn4cA) that police had been looking for Shull because his father called and said his son was thinking of committing a crime and that he was “going to be going to jail for the rest of his life.”

“He and his wife have been fighting and may be divorcing. Just sounds like a bad thing,” Jesse Shull told police.

When Jeremiah Shull was arrested, he had what appeared to be dried blood on his clothing, hands and lower arms, court records said.
