CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - The St. Louis County Council has unanimously endorsed a resolution calling for expedited cleanup of Coldwater Creek following a state health study showing high rates of cancers in north St. Louis County near the creek.

The council also voted Tuesday to expand studies of the creek’s effects on public health.

Mallinckrodt refined uranium for 15 years at a site in downtown St. Louis, and tons of the waste were trucked to sites near the headwaters of the creek.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/10mSTGO ) reports that the resolution also requests that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other federal agencies partner with Missouri to investigate.
