FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A man who was shot when police say he charged a Fort Collins officer with a knife is scheduled to stand trial in February.

The Coloradoan reports (https://noconow.co/1ovj8FS ) 54-year-old Richard Ivey remains in custody on a felony charge of menacing. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 21.

The Fort Collins man was shot and critically wounded when investigators say he confronted an officer with a knife in the parking lot of the Poudre Valley Hospital on June 5. No one else was injured.

Investigators say he told them he wanted to apologize to the officer who shot him, whom he provoked because he wanted to die. Ivey said he was disabled, homeless and living on the streets at the time.

The officer has been cleared of criminal wrongdoing.
