SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Home sales in Maine are bucking national and regional trends, as the number of existing single-family homes jumped by more than 6 percent in September when compared to the year-ago month.

The Maine Association of Realtors reported Tuesday that 1,393 homes were sold last month, up from 1,307 in September 2013.

The median price rose a little more than 1 percent to $175,000 in September.

Both nationally, and in the Northeast, sales volume was down in September, although median prices rose.

Realtors’ president Angelia Levesque says the figures show that the people are feeling better about the economy and are confident they will keep their jobs.

The biggest jumps in the number of single-family homes sold were in Somerset, Waldo and York counties.
