RONAN, Mont. (AP) - The Lake County sheriff’s office is investigating after a 3-year-old boy died of a gunshot wound suffered at a residence in the Ninepipes area between Ronan and St. Ignatius.

Undersheriff Dan Yonkin tells KERR-AM that the boy was shot in the torso at about 8:22 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken to the hospital in Ronan, where he later died.

Yonkin says the boy was shot with a small caliber gun. His body was taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.



Officers have detained a man for questioning and are interviewing witnesses. The Missoulian reports no arrests had been made by 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
