CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A prosecutor in central Pennsylvania says a third-degree murder charge is being filed against a woman already convicted of assault and other offenses for a child’s severe brain injuries.

Franklin County District Attorney Matthew Fogal announced the charge Thursday against 29-year-old Michele Renae Hunter for the death of her former stepson, Billy Travis.

Hunter is serving 9 to 20 years in Muncy State Prison.

Fogal says the new charge was prompted by the 7-year-old boy’s death in June, two months after Hunter’s sentencing.

Hunter said in court earlier this year she wasn’t the cause of his injury but she should have sought medical care sooner.

Prosecutors say the boy was hurt when she shoved him in March 2011, and she waited a day and a half to get medical help.
