ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) - The state is offering a hand to eight east Alabama counties trying to increase tourism.

The Alabama Tourism Department says it will assist the region with marketing support that will include a TV spot and print advertisements.

The promotion will help the Tour East Alabama organization. Participating counties include Calhoun, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Randolph, Talladega and Tallapoosa.

A commercial airing next spring for the area will include attractions like Cheaha State Park, DeSoto Caverns Park, the Talladega Superspeedway and Cold Water Mountain. It will also mention the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and the Chattahoochee River.

Calhoun County tourism director Mary Patchunka-Smith says the commercial will help raise awareness among the millions of residents in nearby metro Atlanta.
