BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A nearly 200-year-old old house that’s believed to be the oldest in Buffalo is up for sale.
WGRZ-TV reports (https://on.wgrz.com/1vIycPO ) that the federal-style Coit House is on the market for about $400,000.
The three-story wooden structure was built around 1815 near Buffalo’s waterfront. Fifty years later, it was moved a few blocks to the city’s Allentown neighborhood.
The home is named for George Coit, a prominent figure in Buffalo’s early history. Coit as a wealthy businessman who helped ensure the Erie Canal would terminate in what was then the village of Buffalo, rather than in a neighboring village. That move helped spur Buffalo’s growth through the 19th century.
The home, listed on the National Historic Register of Places, still has many of its original features, including pine-knotted plank floors.
