SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - The University of Notre Dame has honored two couples who donated a combined $45 million that’s funding construction of a new campus research facility.
The couples’ generosity was noted during a Saturday groundbreaking for the new research complex, which the university hopes can encourage cross-disciplinary research.
The Elkhart Truth reports (https://bit.ly/1BFNOEH ) the 220,000-square-foot McCourtney Hall will offer space for collaboration and research between the Colleges of Science and Engineering.
The three-story building will boast 100,000 square feet of laboratory and work spaces and will be named for alumnus Ted H. McCourtney and his wife, Tracy, who donated $35 million for the new building.
Alumnus Thomas J. Crotty Jr. and his wife, Shari, gave the school another $10 million for the new research building.
