As President Obama gets criticized from all sides, the White House has found someone to say nice things about the president: liberal economist Paul Krugman.

White House deputy press secretary Eric Shultz tweeted Wednesday a link to a column written by Mr. Krugman in Rolling Stone that’s filled with praise for the president.

Mr. Krugman said he was “skeptical” about Mr. Obama in 2008 but has since changed his mind.

“Obama faces trash talk left, right and center — literally — and doesn’t deserve it,” Mr. Krugman wrote. “Despite bitter opposition, despite having come close to self-inflicted disaster, Obama has emerged as one of the most consequential and, yes, successful presidents in American history.”

Republicans noted Tuesday that even former Democratic President Jimmy Carter has joined the ranks of Mr. Obama’s critics, blaming the president for his handling of the crisis in the Middle East and the growing threat of the Islamic State.
