YORK, Maine (AP) - Drivers on the Maine Turnpike may come across something other than traffic this Labor Day.

Maine Turnpike Authority officials will be handing out 25,000 special editions copies of this year’s Farmers’ Almanac to drivers at the York Toll Plaza starting at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Officials expect more that more than 980,000 cars and trucks will take the Maine Turnpike throughout Labor Day weekend. They’re anticipating a nearly 2 percent boost in traffic over last year.

Editors of the 198-year-old publication in Maine are predicting colder-than-normal and wetter-than-usual weather for the three-quarters of the country east of the Rocky Mountains.
