TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A review of the National Cherry Festival by Traverse City commissioners is expected to take place in two weeks.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/Yw4DG0 ) the discussion originally planned for Monday in the northern Lower Peninsula community was postponed to Sept. 22 at the last minute.
The annual festival attracts thousands of people for a week around the Fourth of July and has drawn complaints about its size and cost, among other things. Commissioners were expected to address the festival’s length, its cost and whether to set different dates.
Trevor Tkach, Cherry Festival executive director, called the postponement “extremely disrespectful” and noted that a lot of people wanted to speak Monday.
Mayor Michael Estes says he was concerned the agenda was too full to tackle the Cherry Festival conversation.
