CHEBEAGUE ISLAND, Maine (AP) - Authorities have released the name of the man who died when his pickup truck struck a utility pole on Chebeague Island earlier this week.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that 68-year-old Stephen Hamilton of Gorham failed to negotiate a curve and struck a pole at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Hamilton was the only person in the truck and no other vehicles were involved. Police say Hamilton was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation but police say it appears speed was a factor.
