MERIDIAN, Idaho (AP) - A 21-year-old Meridian man accused of injuring a 19-month-old boy left in his care has been charged with four felony counts of injury to a child.

KTVB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1AChRMM) that Samuel David Ford received the charges Wednesday in 4th District Court.

Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea says the child remains hospitalized in a coma with a life-threatening head injury.

Authorities say the injuries occurred Tuesday and the boy’s grandmother called paramedics.

Police took Ford into custody early Wednesday following an investigation.

Police say Ford told authorities he abused the boy several times.
