PORT ROYAL, S.C. (AP) - A Lowcountry veteran wounded in Afghanistan two years ago is getting a free home.
The Beaufort Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1qGRDrg) that Allan Holland, his wife and their 16-year-old son were surprised with the new home in Port Royal on Wednesday.
Holland was wounded when his unit was attacked by a suicide bomber in a dump truck carrying 20,000 pounds of explosives. Holland served two tours in Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division.
The home is being provided by the developer PulteGroup and Operation Finally Home.
Operation Finally Home is a nonprofit group founded nine years ago to provide homes for wounded and disabled veterans as well as the widows of those who have died in the war on terror.
